TORRANCE, Calif. (Aug 8, 2022) – South Bay native Lindsay Yoshiba, PT, DPT, OCS, who earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Mount Saint Mary’s University joins the staff of Atlantis Physical Therapy in Torrance.

“We are delighted to add Lindsay, an experienced physical therapist with deep ties to the community, to our Atlantis staff,” said Ruth Kurihara, PT, and co-owner. “She brings with her tremendous credentials with her OCS designation (Orthopedic Clinical Specialist) and having completed a residency program in outpatient orthopedic treatment and manual therapy. We are fortunate to have her and our patients will benefit from her knowledge and clinical experience.”

A graduate of Torrance High School, she attended El Camino Community College before transferring to UC San Diego where she earned a B.S. in human biology. Upon completion of her DPT, she continued her education with an orthopedic residency program at Optum Physical Therapy in Torrance where she took additional classes in movement science and pain science. Her OCS credential puts her in an elite group of physical therapists who have obtained this stringent certification.

“I am very excited about this opportunity,” Lindsay said. “Atlantis has a wonderful reputation in the community, and I am looking forward to being a part of the team. It will help me both grow and stretch me as a therapist, but I’m also looking forward to how I will be able to contribute as a new clinician in the clinic.
I am eager to meet the new patients and not only work with them but learn from them as well.”

Lindsay will primarily be treating patients with musculoskeletal issues, sports injuries, post-surgical rehab, osteoporois, and chronic pain along with vestibular and neuro-related conditions.

Her initial interest in anatomy and physiology in high school sparked her interest in pursuing a healthcare related career. A friend going through PT school combined with her own need to see a PT for a knee injury cemented her desire to follow the profession.

“I loved how PTs collaborated with their patients to develop goals and teach them about their bodies to guide them back to doing the things that they love or need to do,” she said. “Because of that, I knew it was the right choice for me.

“Today, I know that it is important to me for them to understand their bodies better, teaching them how to move, how to build flexibility and strength where it is needed, and ultimately empowering them with the understanding that they can change and modify their pain/symptoms through exercise.”

If the phrase “Physician Heal Thyself,” rings true, then Lindsay is a shining example for her patients on the importance of movement and exercise to improve quality of life.

“I never used to be active when I was young, so it’s kind of a surprise I went into a career that encourages an active lifestyle,” said says. “I developed a love for health and fitness towards the end of my undergraduate years in college, especially when I knew that PT was the route that I wanted to take for my career. Setting an example to my patients is important to me, so I have a very set schedule for working out in the wee hours of the morning before work so that I know that I am not asking my patients to do exercises without keeping up with my own exercise routine.”

She is currently training for a half marathon in October and there is no doubt her new Atlantis Physical Therapy family will be rooting her on. We look forward to working with Lindsay and know our patients will as well.
